Fun fact about me? I absolutely love the “nog”. I am all about that creamy, sweet holiday goodness. Just talking about it gives me happy feelings inside. I know what you might be thinking if you know me, “Emily, what about your nonexistent dairy tolerance?” It is true, dairy hates my insides–milk, cream, cheese, and the likes. After the great Sonic debacle of 2014 (not kidding), I swore off all dairy in any amounts. So where does this leave me in terms of my favorite holiday treat?Luckily for me, I am not the only eggnog loving lactose intolerant (I say intolerant lightly). Walk down the milk section at any Whole Foods, Sprouts, or even King Sooper’s/Kroger and you will find a plethora of vegan “egg” nogs based off of soy milk, almond milk, and even coconut milk!
It is hard to say which one is my favorite because I love them all for different reasons! The almond milk one shown above has magnificent flavor, but the coconut milk one’s thick and creamy texture is spot on to real nog. I always have to top my glass of after dinner nog with a sprinkle of nutmeg to complete the tasteful sensation. Yes. Yes, I am crazy–for nog! After my workout tonight, I decided to make an Eggnog Protein Shake.
Ingredients
- ½ c vegan eggnog (I used So Delicious brand)
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Vega)
- ½ c ice cubes
- nutmeg
- splash of water
Just place all ingredients into a blender and blend until all of the ice has been crushed and melted into the shake. Then, pour into a glass and top with nutmeg.
This shake is just 170 calories! All the more reason to E N J O Y ! ! !
