Since I am heading back to Colorado on Saturday, my mom and I spent the day together yesterday. We spent the day exploring and shopping our backyard–meaning Houston. We do not really venture into the city too terribly much, but when we do, when always have a blast! We started off the day with a yummy and healthy breakfast. My mom poached eggs (one of the reasons I struggle with veganisn…I just think eggs are too healthy to miss out on). She mixed hers in with some grits and I had mine on top of some gluten-free, brown rice toast.
Knowing all too well what happened the last time we had a big shopping trip in the city (prom dress shopping + hunger = HANGER), I stuffed my purse with a Think Think Lean Protein Bar. It did not last long though, as I felt the “hanger” sweeping in–thank goodness I was prepared!
We made our way into the city.
All of our stops were our favorites, beginning with Sur le Table–it is a kitchen store and I’m pretty sure we spent a good two hours in there. It was awesome!!!
I came home with recipe cards, espresso mugs and spoons, and mini pink silicone spatulas.
Walking around we spotted some gorgeous dinnerware–wedding settings? Haha just kidding…a bit too flashy for me.
Afterwards, surprise, I was hungry again, so we grabbed a bite to eat at La Madeleine. It is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch/lunch places.
I has the Strawberry Spinach Salad with no chicken or bacon and the dressing on the side. My mom had the Balsamic Field Greens Chicken Salad and French Onion Soup. After our lunch, a certain place caught my immediate attention.
If you know me at all, you know I absolutely love macaróns–and I am a total snob about them. (Don’t you dare refer to them as “macaroons”… please haha.)
I often make these and am trying to perfect them, but it will take a long while to master these or the ones in the patisseries in France.
So scrumptious!!! We got pistachio, rose water, lavender, coffee and dark chocolate, milk chocolate, raspberry, cookies and cream, cinnamon roll and lemon. Yum, yum and more yum! After browsing a few more shops like chocolate shops and Urban Outfitters, we called it a day and headed home.
We were the furthest thing from feeling like grumpy cat, but I could not resist, my sister loves that cat!
It was a great day shared with an amazing person–love my momma!
