slow and steady

It’s a new year. Again. Does anyone else feel like they should stay the same age this year’s birthday? Can I turn 26 again in 2021? 2020 was a limbo year. When 2021 hit, like most others, I set some new year intentions. Also like most others, one of those intentions is to lose some weight and gain some strength. Ground-breaking, right? This time felt and is different though. I didn’t set a date that revolved around me being in a swim suit. I didn’t start January off with a Whole30 or cut out sugar, although I almost started a Whole30. So what’s changed? Why is this time different? Why is this year, really the year I get healthier again?

the open ended| crossfit

crossfit | open | training | competition | workout | fitness | health | wellness | Moving Mountains Wellness

The 2018 CrossFit Open ended.  I did each workout as prescribed, meaning I lifted amounts of weight as written, and followed all the rules on burpees, handstand push-ups etc.  Each year, I can compare fitness to others around the world and see my ranking over the years.  I was a little disheartened at first to learn that I did worse than last year, according to my ranking.   Continue reading

day twenty-seven, -eight & -nine | fueled up

day twenty-seven, -eight & -nine | fueled up | Journey for JessiHappy Friday everyone!  Boy, was it a good great week!  The final week of my Whole30 and I honestly feel on top of the world.  My food has been in control.  I have learned what works for me.  I have my “sugar dragon” under control.  It is pretty amazing, but I will go into further detail in my final Whole30 summary post this weekend—so stay tuned.  As for this week, I’m focusing on my meals, workouts, and recovery sessions. a year can change you

a year can change you | Journey for JessiA lot can happen in a year.  2015 has been my year that is without a doubt. I have grown in so many ways and really nailed down what I stand for and who I want to strive to become.  Of course, I am going to give you all a run down of how exactly how I have changed for the better this year, and you will get to see fun pics of some highlights of this year’s adventures with my friends, but to leave it at that would just be unfair.  Unfair because I am not the only one on this planet that has changed this year.  Every one of us has had an adventurous year for certain. defending a passion

IMG_0766

If you’re passionate about something, and I mean really passionate about something, you pursue it through all ends of the Earth.  You stand for it.  You believe in it.  You defend it.  This “something” can take many forms whether it be a career, hobby, person, etc.  For me, this something is Crossfit.

ski break

ski break || Journey for JessiLast weekend was a blast!  I went down to Winter Park for the weekend to go skiing–a typical pass time for the Colorado student I have discovered.  It was a nice break to exert some energy on the snowy mountains and be at one with nature and away from the crowded gym and college campus.  I love any type of vacation that involves a physical activity paired with it like skiing, surfing, hiking, biking, etc.  Although I did have a “cheat” weekend, I always made sure to keep everything in balance too.

thursday challenge

oh leg day || Journey for JessiThis workout is my killer workout from Thursday.  I was hoping to get it up by Friday, but as you know, life is a whirlwind!  I just got home again from a mini vacation/weekend away, but I will do a separate post about that.  My best friend wanted me to help her get back in shape after spending a few month abroad.  I was more than excited to help out and challenge myself along the way.

spring semester

spring semester || Journey for Jessi Classes resumed this week for me!  Yay college!  I actually am really excited about this semester.  What has changed?  The more difficult classes?  Longer and busier schedule?  Nope!  My new outlook on life!  Remember my New Year’s Resolutions?  Yeah, those are still going strong–if not stronger than ever!

cycling and protein

cycling and protein | Journey for JessiI am back in Colorado and back at the Rec!  It takes some getting used to after being at my smaller gym in my hometown.  To me, it is more intimidating with all of the students that pretty much live at the gym.  I know it is silly, but some of those big guys look like they could crush (and I am probably right…)  One of my resolutions though, is to stop being afraid of failure.  I often do not try new things for fear of being made fun of and failing, then being made fun of some more.  But, I know I have already grown a lot this year and I feel more confident–so who really cares anyway if I look like a fool?  It’s my first time and I failure is part of the process of success!   Continue reading

choose health

choose healthy--Journey for JessiHave a sweet tooth?  A sugary craving sets in and you start to worry your self-control is waning… Trust me, I know this feel allllll too well.  That is why I learned to start snacking smart and choosing healthier options when it comes to my sweet tooth.  So, what do I do when it comes to smart, healthy snacking?
