After reading so many books in 2016, I set a New Year’s intention (I don’t set resolutions anymore). I want to read at least one book a month. So far so good! Because I am reading up a storm and reading is such a big part of my life, I wanted to add a “book club” section on my blog. Let me know what you think of this, a.k.a please give me feedback as to if you like this or not, what you would like to see, book recs, etc.
In 2017 thus far, I have finished reading:
- A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron
- Food Freedom Forever by Melissa Hartwig
A Dog’s Purpose was rather enjoyable for me being the dog person that I am. I cried, a lot. I didn’t see the movie, nor will I… So going off of just the book, I do recommend for any dog lover, dog owner, dog enthusiast that doesn’t mind a few happy/sad/all-the-feels tears.
The book I read in February, Food Freedom Forever, is by far, my favorite of Melissa’s Whole30 collection, personally speaking. She talks about the emotional connections we have with food and how to develop a healthy relationship with food, especially with life after Whole30 (another book I recommend). Sure, go ahead and classify these as “diet” books, yikes. The nutrition nerd in me loves them though. I struggle calling any books from Melissa a “diet” book, because the program and FFF is all about NOT dieting! I may also have a celeb crush on Melissa, so I may be a bit biased (see previous post).
March’s book I revealed yesterday on Snapchat (@emvalerioti), and today on Instagram (@emvalerioti): The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson.
This book is a game changer for sure. I am only a chapter in and my neck already hurts from nodding in agreements and “hell-yeah’s.” This book falls under the “self-help” category. Don’t be fooled, though. This one is not one of those mushy books encouraging you that you are doing the best you can… blah blah blah. In the words of Mark, F that… This book is real and honest. I am all about the honesty. I cannot wait to finish this one up!
Since March just began, I encourage you to pick up a copy and read along with me! Then we can chat about it.
peace & love
Emily
*All opinions are my own, and I am not being compensated in any way, shape or form by promoting these books. Although, I did get a hug from Melissa Hartwig and talked to her for 5 minutes once. Is that compensation? Nah. I just like reading and I have opinions.
